Message For Sale! EGR valve from a '91 300zx TT...removed without pulling the motor or transmission. :-)

Included in the sale is 1 pint of blood from my knuckles along with this guy...from the EGR exhaust port. In all honesty I would probably pay someone to get this hideous thing out of my sight.

So this started out as a project to replace my plenum with a powder coated one with the cast marks removed. It has since morphed into a bunch of things including removing the EGR when I noticed that both of the pipes leading into the plenum were completely clogged...like this...

In case anyone is interested...here is what I have to say about removing the EGR with the engine and transmission in place: Do not attempt this unless you have lots of time/patience and are willing to cut a few of the EGR pipes. I am planning to bypass the system and thus did not mind destroying things in the process.

To accomplish this project I already had removed the upper plenum and battery. I also ended up removing the heater hoses on the firewall, the driver side hard water line, and the driver side downpipe for better access. Even with the downpipe removed the exhaust bolt is still a pain. I cut the pipe coming off the exhaust right at the bolt (as shown in the picture) which allowed me to get a 22mm socket and breaker bar in position. Without the breaker bar...I doubt I would have been successful. I started the EGR removal with the exhaust bolt since I figured it would be the hardest to remove...consequently it was also the last thing I removed, but it only took 2 days of being soaked with PB Blaster.

That's about it. I wish I would have taken more pictures for a more thorough write-up. But maybe I can give hope to a few out there that it is possible to remove the EGR without removing the engine or transmission. I probably wouldn't have attempted it myself, but others had posted that it was possible...so I felt confident that it could be done.

On a final note...here's a picture of the current state of my car.

Yeah...yeah...it's dirty I know, but wait till I'm done and I'll put up some before/after pics.
